At this time, children’s services are experiencing a major shortage of trained child care workers Australia wide. The Office of Child Care has recently commissioned a study to find solutions to the current staff crisis. With 49% of children (520,700) under 12 using child care, the Federal Government has provided additional funding to provide child care services. However, at this time there are not enough trained staff to operate these services.

Upon completion of the Diploma in Children’s Services you will be a fully Qualified Child Care Worker. You will be eligible to work as an authorised supervisor/Director in a variety of children’s services. You are also eligible to enter the Bachelor of Education at the University of Newcastle and other Universities throughout Australia saving you thousands in HECS fees and without requiring a UAI.

The Diploma of Children Services is a Nationally Accredited Course which covers children 0-12 years.

This qualification covers workers who are responsible for developing and evaluating the program. Workers at this level have responsibility for the supervision of other staff and volunteers and in most States it is the highest qualification required at director or service manager level.

Workers at this level are required to have an understanding of Indigenous culture and history and to work with local communities in the provision of services.

If continuing on to university to complete a Bachelor of Education you have all of the above employment options in addition to teaching in primary schools as a qualified teacher specialising in Kindergarten to Year 6.
